Winter NW Mid East Arts – Events and Classes
|
The Northwest Middle Eastern Arts Update
January 5th, 2010 - Next Update January 19th
|
This list serves Oregon, Washington and the NW United States. It is open to any who wish to post an event related to Middle Eastern performance arts or one of it’s modern offspring. If interested in posting an event, please see guidelines at bottom.
And yes, there has been a name change for the new year! Because so many people from Oregon and Washington participate and read the update, I’ve switched from “Portland” to “Northwest”. So please encourage your friends in Wash. to send in their listings. I’ll formally announce when the transition is complete. Enjoy! – David Reihs

LIFELONG BELLY DANCERS TAKE THE STAGE,
CELEBRATING THEIR RADIANCE IN WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
Performers:
Aleili, Basma, Delilah, Elizabeth Dennis, Hasani, Rishi, Sabura, Saqra
Eight luminous local women take the stage in “Hathor Unveiled: An
Homage to Seattle’s Belly Dance Origins.” Like Hathor, an ancient
Egyptian goddess of music, dance, and foreign lands, who personified
feminine love, motherhood, and joy, these women have dedicated their
lives to sharing the many benefits of belly dance, enriching Puget
Sound culture and the confidence, health, and wellness of countless
other women. All over the age of 45, they continue to teach, innovate,
and perform.
This show celebrates the artistry and beauty of seasoned women in
performance while paying tribute to the many influential lifelong
belly dance artists in our area who laid the groundwork for today’s
prolific belly dance scene. Although only eight are featured in the
coming show, there are many more to be acknowledged. Inspired by their
teachers and mentors, this show is produced by Malia Mihailoff and
Suzanna Davis. It is hoped that the debut of this event will lead to
future productions featuring more of these remarkable women of our
community.
